National Committee for Lawyers in CSCCI Discussed Advancing Cooperation Agreement with Human Rights Commission


The National Committee for Lawyers in the Council of Saudi Chambers of Commerce held its 41st meeting recently which was chaired by lawyer Dr. Majid bin Mohammed Garoob, and attended by members of the Committee. Participated in the meeting Dr. Zamel Al Mane the Human Rights Commission’s representative, Dr. Tariq Al Ibrahim, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Law magazine, and Mr. Farraj Al Ogla (Lawyer), member of consultative committee for arbitration in the Ministry of Justice.

Dr. Garoob explained that the committee discussed in this meeting a number of subjects that concern Lawyers. Amongst the most important topics discussed was addressing their highness the Ministers, Commissions’ and Government Agencies’ Heads regarding the enforcement of the lawyer’s system and the phenomena of debt collectors and agents violating their license terms. The committee also discussed under-training-law students obtaining lawyers permits, and the importance of the meetings between lawyers and the heads of Judicial, legal and security agencies. In this regard the lawyers valued the meeting with his highness the Interior Minister with the lawyers in Madinah as well as their meeting with his Excellency the President of the Court of Appeal.

The Committee also appreciated the recommendation of the Lawyers Committee of Jeddah that the membership in the Lawyers Committees in the Chambers of Commerce should be, through a direct election process, amongst licensed lawyers only, and that it should be applied to all Chambers if at all possible.

The Committee honored during the meeting, Dr. Mohamed Bin Hamad Al Hoshan (Lawyer), as a one of the leading pioneers of the profession in the country and a former chairman of the National Committee for Lawyers.

Also in the deliberation agenda of the Committee was to find ways of boosting the cooperation agreements with the Human Rights Commission. And it was agreed to sign a Memorandum to increase the joint activities with the Commission as well as with Law magazine.

Finally, at the conclusion of his statement, the Chairman confirmed the date of the next meeting on June 23rd 2008, , which will witness the signing of an academic cooperation agreement with the Naif Arab Academy for Security Sciences.

It should be noted that the National Commission for Lawyers is one of the national committees of the Council of Saudi Chambers of Commerce and Industry, which aims to develop the service sector and the legal profession in general.
